Pretty long story so I will keep it short. Stopped in for a pizza and a beer two weeks ago with two other riding buddies. Park in front of the bar on the Main street in town. We just got off the bikes and stepped on the side walk when a drunk driver came by hauling *** and creamed 2 of the 3 bikes! My bike flew about 30 feet. We were very lucky not to be run over or hit by the bikes as they flew by us. The driver kept going! I called the description of the truck into 911 and they caught him about 3 hours later. There was over $6,000 in damages to my buddies 09 StreetGlide and over $15,000 to my bagger. They totaled my bike. The guy had no insurance on top of the rest of it. I settled with my insurance, took a little beatt'n with that also. Anhow I just baught a 2011 StreetGlide, pretty pumped. I pick it up a week from today. I will miss my old bike as I had a bunch of time in it and I thought it looked pretty sick. It could have been alot worse and I will be back in the saddle in a week.
Good = 1) You are alive and 2) You get a brand new bike and get to have fun customizing it to your liking.
Bad = You lose an old familiar friend you are use to.
Could have been worse. If you were in our state, Ohio, the minimum property damage limit is $7500. So if he had those you could have been out of luck over and above the $7500 with your insurance company. Could have been struck trying to collect the extra personally from the POS that hit your bike.
That's where my mind went too! No insurance? Drunk? Hit/run? After you're given opportunity to question him personally (closure on your family member <g>), that dude ought to do time...
Damn that sucks.......My 2 week old Street Glide got tagged in the parking lot of the dealership where it was purchased. 100 bikers in the lot and no one saw it happen. I have $2K deductible and thought I would be stuck with the whole bill, but in SC the insurance companies are required a $200 deductible on a hit & run, unattended vehicle. In our case we were in the store for 15min. and came out to find the damage. My head exploded and went on a bit of a rampage. It turned out ok. Being a new bike the fender was readily available, still an expensive stop.
Best to move on and not think about all the what if's. Fortunate the trunk wasn't a few minutes earlier. Could have happen as you were parking.
