Default Ultra fork leak

My 06 has one of the forks leaking oil. A friend of mine told me to try running sumething thin like camera film down into the seal and around the fork to see if maybe there was some dirt in it. Think this may work? bike only has 10k miles on it. If not what is the easiest way to fix the seal? I will replace the seals on both sides if I have to, the other can't be far behind.

The easiest way to fix the seal(s) is to replace them. If you take it down that far and want anything like chrome front forks or black front forks or different internals like aftermarket springs or Ricor Intiminators, etc. now would be the time to do it. Not hard, just a PITA taking everything apart.

Cash is a little tight, was looking for pipe dream that may fix it without tearing it apart.

I would be willing to bet that if you put camera film past the seal , if it was just dirt, the seal would leak worse after that.
If money is short, pull it apart, and fix it yourself , I think the seals are under $20.00 each.

Replacing the seals, drain screws, fluid only isn't going to break the bank by any means.........like I said though, just a PITA to take it down to do it.

Monotubes are $400.00, I'll get the parts and do it myself this weekend instead of riding I guess.

You would need new seals anyway but they are under $300.00.

Good luck dude. I just did my dad's bike with chrome lowers, flush axle, and Monotubes last weekend. took about three hours. you dont need to remove the inner fairing, so it doesnt take long to tear down.

let me know if you need help.

oh, the seals were $11 and some change a piece

I just did chrome bells and sliders on my '08 FLHX (same forks) as well, last week. The new seals at my dealer were $9.60 each. The whole job took a little over three hours. The tedious part is removing the fairing, the turn-signals, the fairing cap, etc.

I have 19,600 miles on mine and the oil was ready to be changed too. Not a hard job, just takes a little time and patience. Hollar if you need some help.
