I have the BAL 3ST, I don't think the running intensity setting makes the brake intensity any brighter, just the running light. I could be wrong, but I think the brake intensity is at its max all the time.
I concur. Brake light setting is permanent. Running light setting and flash pattern are adjustable.
Let me tell ya how BadAss the BAL-1 is, even the little magnet used to make program and intensity adjustments comes with it's own warning sticker!
Basically a pop-in change and then you set the program you want. I got hypnotized running through the choices and lost my way staring into it during the "parade" modes, like I was lost in a maze!
