the stock headlight on my '08 ultra just dont cut it. its better than nothing but just barely. any suggestions on a better light without spending an arm and a leg?
I had the dealer install Aux. lamps when the bike (SG) was new to take advantage of the two year warranty. At the same time I had the Dual Bulb headlamp installed for the same reason but had I known the ample light put out by this setup I would not of done the Aux lamps.
Put a 50/100 in the headlight and 55's in the spots...VERY low budget and you will not believe the improvement. Having them adjusted also works wonders......headlight very easy....spots can be a challenge.
LED's and HID's are a big improvement too, but the cost can get out of hand.
The best way to improve the light from your headlight is to throw out the plastic POS Harley headlight unit, and replace it with a decent unit. Use either a Cibie, Hella or Bosch 7in car headlight unit. These bolt straight in without any modifications, They are all glass, with a superior reflector and lens, which give a longer, more focused beam. They are designated E code. Add a Phillips +80 H4 bulb (or similar) which is supposed to give 80% more light. the difference is amazing!, and the cost reasonable.

Naturally I don't use the particular number light that they are showing on that page but they do make them to fit motorcycles. They only problem I have is (and this is true with all brighter filament type lights) they don't last as long as the dimmer lights. The brighter the light the shorter the lifespan rating is for them. I buy mine at the O'Riley Auto Parts Stores around here for about half the "Suggested Retail Price" and O'Riley's standard guarantee is for 1 year on all parts they sell. My first one only lasted 9 months and they replaced it for free. This is about the cheapest way you can go without spending an "arm and a leg" IMHO.
