Hi all. Im looking to upgrade the 103 I have in my 2011 SG. I was looking for any recommendations that anybody here might have.
thanks.
How big are your pockets?? Because you can go as far as your pockets can afford. 103ci is a good motor.Maybe a 117ci would be nice. You can use your same crank, & just do the top half of motor. You should weld, balance,& plug the crank though.
The most basic are slipon mufflers, a tuner and a better aircleaner. This will really wake up the bike. I started there on my 103 Limited. Big improvement with the TTS tuner and map I could download myself. I then went to SE 255 cams, installed them myself. Very good improvement in torque, a very good upgrade for two up riding or for anyone that wants to build a real torque monster. If you are willing to forgo some of the improvements in the very low rpm range , Fuel moto has a great article(post) on hear about thier 107 with a 555 cam. Already having 103 cubes, your bike should respond very well to that cam or similar, power coming on about five hundred rpm higher, but much stronger. While installing the cam, setting the quench ( piston to head clearance) to about .035 is worth the trouble to do on most motors. I don't know what the average head to piston clearance is on the 103, worth looking into. After this group of mods, the cost goes way up, and the benefits go down in terms of gain per $$ spent.
Cams & Power Commander (or similar) Air cleaner, Head pipe w/o catalytic converter and slip ons that flow more air ...all this would be around $2000-$2500 maybe a bit more or less depends if you do a lot of the work yourself or not....Wakes the bike up though...
I did the Rush slip ons 2" baf. , Head pipe no Cat.( X pipe) , Hi flow Arlen ness air cleaner kit with stock cover , 254E cams , and the Master Tune p/n 2000000 and Master Tuned on Dyna-jet , 88.15 Hp 103.72 ft.lbs.
I am very happy with the results , IT'S JUST WOW , from stock
it's the Merlot one in front , the nice thing is it keeps the stock look (for me anyway )

Good Point. Im looking to spend about 2500.00 on the initial blast. Then more as I can later.
I payed $2900.00 for this work , it was turnkey
