It should have been totalled when the frame damage was found. Now it will have a reconstructed title and a trade or sale will bite you in the ***. Your insurance co. must not like you very much.

Yes, I agree with ezriderphg. Usually when frame damage is found the bike is automatically totaled. Regardless, it sounds like you're apprehensive about the repair, therefore dump it and get a new ride.

Usually when the frame is damaged to the point of needed replacement, they total out the bike. If that is the case then the bike will have a salvage title. At that point you will not be able to trade in. I dont know of dealers actually taking a salvage bike in on trade. Best to just get paid off and walk away and get a new bike. IMO

Now you have me worried a little more about mine. Did you hit something to damage the frame? I'm thinking mine is only cosmetic. Went down in rain. The bike slid about 20 feet, but didn't hit anything. Hoping to get it looked at tomorrow.

Peering through the gloom across the Atlantic I am surprised by some of your reactions chaps! If the bike has a new frame and is rebuilt it should be fine, otherwise the dealer wouldn't want to do the work, nor the insurers approve having it done.

Having fallen off your horse I suggest you should climb back on as soon as you can! Make a decision what to do after you have ridden it, if only to satisfy yourself you can do it.

Call your insurance company today and tell them not to fix the bike, it is totaled and you do not want it and will not except repairs on it. Stop it all right now. Call the shop and tell them too.

I don't see why the bike wouldn't be fine after replacing the frame and any other damaged parts. A motorcycle is far simpler than a car to repair.

But if you don't mind opening your wallet, get a new bike.

If you are getting a new frame, I'm sure the bike will be fine, although I understand why you are concerned. With that being said, if the dealer is offering you $15.5k to trade it in, two things come to mind. A) The title is not going to be effected (and for those who claim there will be a title problem, it would have a salvage title ONLY if it were considered a total loss by the insurance company which it obviously has not). And B) that trade value is a gift! I bought my 2009 FLHX in 2010 for about 600 more than that from a dealer, it had a stage 1 upgrade, with SERT, only 7k miles, and not a scratch on it.

At the end of the day, you need to have peace of mind with what you are riding. It does not matter what any of us on the internet think about the situation.

...be careful of miss- information around here...if the insurance company is going ahead with repairs, then nothing happens to the title, it is not "re-titled" as a salvage..that only happens if they TOTAL it and someone buys it as salvage, then fixes it and wants to register it to ride or sell...replacing a frame is not a big deal..dealers do it all the time..I've written a few myself for the ins. co's here in Mass...it's about 12 hours labor...I would ride it after it's done and see how it feels before making any decision...great time to do an engine upgrade too since the motor will be out on the ins. co's dime..

What a pefect time to jump on a new 2012 in the color you want with ABS, cruise,103, etc., and also gain peace of mind.

In today's market, you will never get more than 15.5K....there are too many bikes for sale.

2012 Streetglide in one of the new colors sounds pretty good to me.
