IMC helmetless headsets here also...I use them with my J&M CB setup. If you go with the fullface or modular ge the J&M...sounds a bit better
Did the same thing on my street glide until I could afford the HD setup. worked flawlessly all the time. You could also add an Ipod or portable radio to it so that you have tunes on the way.
Along this same line, does anyone know if the Scala G4 works with a half helmet? Like the OP, I'm on a Road King, so I'm limited to those systems that do not require the existing HD system. Looks like the IMC Helmetless does plug into that system. From what I've read, the Scala G4 seems pretty impressive (up to 1 mile range, etc.), but I don't want to have to put on a full helmet to use it.

Scala has a half helmet audio kit you should be able to get for under $70, but they specifically say it does not work with the G4. The Q2/Q2 Pros are fine.
Not meaning to hi-jack, but here's my .02 worth. GF and I use the Scala G4, with modular helmets. Her brother and his wife also have the G4, on 3/4 helmets. On the down side, and as mentioned above, the G4 isnt available in a half-helmet setup. When we're on a trip....communicating between the 4 of us is nice, and works well. Cell phone & GPS work good thru Bluetooth, which allows me to listen to MP3s via the phone. Im considering ordering a Q2 just for the 1/2. I know it's added expense, but might be worth it.
We just bought the Sena SMH10 to use on our trip to SD in July. My folks also bought them so we could all talk to each other. We tried them out last night for quick ride and they seemed to work well. I use a HD half helmet, and my wife uses a full face, both parents use open face 3/4, so none of them have issues mounting the speakers?
I decided on the Sena, because it seemed easy to use vs the Scala G4, was $100 cheaper (even cheaper based on one post on here at $250 for a pair), has a thin mount, different mounts are not overly expensive either, and I had read several bad reviews or issue with the Scala G4. The issues I read may have been worked out since the posts, but there were enough of them with issues with droid's that I didn't figure it would work out well playing music through it or using it for directions. I was looking for something that would work with a half helmet as well, due to not being able to mount speakers anywhere. The Sena has a ear bud mounting option ($40.00) so you could use whatever headphones you wanted, just like on an mp3 player (Scala does not have this I don't think). I went to Gander Mt (any gun store may have them) and bought some molded ear plugs (mix two parts together, stick the ball of silcone in your ear and form it to your ear shape). If take some ear buds then you can insert those the same time you make the ear mold to make a set of molded ear phones. Cost me about $35 for the molding material and the earphones I got. The molded ear plugs block out wind noise so it sounds fairly decent. This is the only cord you have to deal with unless your MP3 or GPS does not have bluetooth etc.
At the moment I think the Sena will work ok, we will know for sure when we get back from our trip. Some draw backs are you can only talk to one other person at a time, where scala is everyone at once I think? So if you are trying to talk to the other rider and they are talking to their passenger then you will have to wait til they stop communicating. I think the Scala is open all the time, but I am not sure. I do remeber reading that if someone got a phone call everyone would hear it with the Scala. Sena is coming out with a helmet less headset, but it has not been released yet according to their website.
If you do go with Sena, try and make sure you get the new version with the micro USB to update firmware. Ours did not come with that and is going to cost $49 a headset to trade them in to get the firmware upgradable version. Kind of BS, but can't do much about it now.
