Actually caught a break....at the end of last season I put a scratch on my tank right on top in plain veiw - can't be repaired needs to be repainted. Just today I got a call from the dealer who had my bike in for some service and the guy says "I got good news and bad news" - good news was my bike was ready - bad news was the tech had a wrench slip while tightening my breather bolt and put a chip in the tank. The chip is in a spot that you can't see unless you are looking up from underneath. The guy comped my service and also gave me a choice of $800 service credit or a new tank. I figure that since I have been bumming about that scratch, my worries are over...new tank - nice!
In response to post 12 and 17: I should clarify that when I say the chip is not noticable, it's more like "hey it's not that bad" because when on the side stand you can see the dimple of the chip but it's got touch-up paint so it's "not that bad"....the scratch that I put on it, though too deep to buff out, seriously looks like a hairline scratch in the clear coat that is also not that noticable except because it's on MY bike RIGHT ON TOP it's glaring TO ME and it bugs the crap out of me..........in fairness the chip is much more damage than my scratch.

Hey, with all the bad stories we hear on this website, it's nice to hear about a good one.
Luck you. Don't worry, be happy!!

Yup - this is a great dealer - they have always stood behind their work and have been great to deal with every encounter...............a shout out to Twin City Harley Davidson in Blaine, MN!
Damn - I had a dealer scratch my read fender (long time ago) - the crap I had to put up with to get them to fix it was unbelievable. I've never had my bike in their service department since and I bought my next bike from another dealer.
