I don't recall anypinging when it was bone stock...but that was only a couple of hundred miles before I did hi-flo air cleaner and some D&Ds with HD Download tune. I don't recall it starting until I recently made a trip to Arkansas with elevations. Now it does it all of the time.
I only use premium fuel and only from big names (exxon, Shell, etc...).
When I ordered PCV originally I told them that I was trying to eliminate pinging. I'll give a call back and see if they can make an adjustment.
I had similar prob with my HQ 107 motor, ran great but had a ping at 2900 - 3100 rpm, drove me nuts for a year. I took it to Ed at Dyno Difference there in Dallas on my way back from Alaska, a new bike after 4 hours, will be riding my Dyna over to him at end of this month to get same treatment. Give him a call to discuss your issue he will square your bike away, great dude too. He can tune with any tuner so you will not need to buy anything extra. You will have a new bike when he is done with it. You might want to throw in a 555 or andrews 54 cam before you get the tune.

you will need to figure out what rpm and how much load is on motor when it pings.
had the same problem with mine with mine. I took 3 degrees out at 2000-2500 rpm and a couple off at 5700 rpm. shitty gas dont help . I had some midrange gas in before I changed timing and it really pinged, put in all high test and it got better but still pinged at bit. I had a different program in earlier and it never pinged but all timing was about 6-8 degrees less
Same here, crappy gas and the heat dont help. I reduced the timing about 3 deg in the range that pinged. No more ping now.

I agree that a dyno tune is the way to go in the long run. I would like to do that, but like you said...after a cam upgrade. I'm not quite ready to do that yet.
I had the same issues that Harley couldn't get right even with a SE tuner. I took it to a competent local shop and re-tuned on the dyno and it hasn't pinged since.
I am sick of this damned pinging! Stock 96ci engine. Can the dealer re-flash the stock ECM to help eliminate this? If retarding the timing is the answer, how do you do that with a stock ECM?
From what I read here its gonna cost me around $2k to solve this problem with new header/pipes, a/c, and tuner de jour. BS!!!

Just have the dealer flash your ECM with a stage 1 download and it should help it or eliminate it and it wont cost near as much. Then you can add a high flow air cleaner and pipes whenever you want and it should still be ok or you can just leave the ones you have.
my 07 pinged from day 1 & so does my buddys 07. I just rode it like that until after 16K. I then did BUB 7 slip ons & SE A/C & remap. It stopped. real good. my buddy has 30k on his & it still does the pinging. I bought a 2011 FLTRX 103 & have 6K & not a problem. It's stock & will stay that way. UNLESS I get that pinging again. I hope you get it fixed. Good luck
With a FuelMoto PCV on it you should not be experiencing the pinging. A call to Jamie over there should result in a new map that will fix that. With the HiFlo Intake and D&D exhaust, that bike should be running very good now. Sounds like the map on the PCV isn't right or that the unit isn't functioning properly. You've got good equipment, it's the tune that's off.
