1: Use 50 lbs in the shocks

2: Change out your head pipe and do at least a stage 1 download to the ecm
You head pipe has a catalytic converter in there and looks like this cut open:

3: See if the floor boards in the the top position,
those adjustable Kuyrakan pegs might help
or get the HD Comfort Profile Saddlebag Guard Kit: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Thanks for the quick and thoughtful replies.

I installed the midframe deflectors a while back and they certainly help me, but the wife's problem is the "collector" where the pipes merge near the right passenger footboard.

I pumped up the shock with another 10 psi, but figure that will only make the shock more harsh (stiffer). We are not bottoming out, but man the ride is harsh, way too harsh for a "plush" touring bike.

I will adjust the foot boards tonight. I forgot about this tip from a similar post.

The Harley catalog indicates that the FLHTC is a fitment exception for the comfort bars...

The wife stays. For instance, just this morning she asked whether our bike had a enough power for two up riding on the expressway, and if not, need to trade it in for one that does. How cool is that?

Actually, she is leaning to add a sidecar. I sold our sidecar bike (and a Nomad) to finance the FLHTC purchase. She has not forgiven me. It is tough to live UNFORGIVEN.

1+ on raising the air pressure to 50lbs (for 2 up). The floor boards in rear can be raised/lowered (we had the same issue on ours)and now wife is happy. Heat is another question....you can try heat deflectors or Captain itch has a product for that very reason...I don't have one but hear good things about them. He's on this forum and you can check out his website.

Get a tuner and exhaust to replace the header. Shocks need to have 50lbs for your weight and loaded down. Check your owner's manual. There is a table in there. Adjust the passenger boards.

All 2012 Touring bikes will have a 103.

No comment on the side car angle, I'm just not a side car fan. I guess I watched too many "Hogan's Heros" shows as a kid.
Me personally would get a Trike.

The passenger boards can be changed to HD offset brackets. This worked well for my 5'3" wife.

My wife complains the heat is more from the calf down coming from the collector and pipes. I already have a mid frame deflector. Time for a stage one w/head pipe.
