Well isn't that interesting, the maintenance manual had very little information on the the Cruise control. I did check the brakes and all seems fine there. I rode the bike again and the cruise works fine now as well. I was not able to find any codes, but I may have done that wrong. But I need to find out whats going on so it doesn't fail on me during a long ride.
My cruise hasn't worked in two years . . . just tried the lash reset procedure . . . it worked (all the lights worked and the engine reved up and down during the procedure) . . . but cruise still did not work.
Unhooked the rollover switch . . . cruise works great now . . . well, except won't shut off rolling the throttle . . . goes off with use of either brake.
Everyone I know with cruise control complaints that it quits working every once in a while. It always seems to start working again just as mysteriously as it quit. No clue why.
That's what was wrong with mine. Forgot to use the cardboard trick when replacing my grips two days before an ironbutt ride.
Nothing like an ironbut ss1000 sans cruise control!!

Hey TexasSG, explain the cardboard trick please. My cruise quit working when my dealer installed heated grips a while back. When I took my RCK back and asked them about it, the tech who did the install denied doing anything wrong, but I don't believe in coincidence here, I believe in cause and effect. by the way, I get no code and it seems the problem is in my set/resume switch.

Is the (I almost said "rear"...duh) brake light on all the time?
Edit: the reason I ask is because mine was. I popped the switch plunger out of place when I took the controls apart to replace the grips despite knowing better......too many beers?
Everyone (well, almost everyone), including myself, knows that you have to slide a thin piece of cardboard in between the switch and the lever to avoid potential switch damage. Fortunately I was able to pop mine back in place, the brake lamp went out and the cruise worked......after an ironbutt was complted!
thought that is what you were talking about. I need to check my brake light. and sorry for high jacking this thread, but I have been frustrated with my dealer for giving me the run around.
Do you happen to have a Power Commander 5? If so, PM me. I had a similar situation and was able to resolve it. It had to do with the version of PC software.
It must be the heat causing all these CC's to go out, as mine is now included in the group. The brake light switches are working right and the first set of diagnostics (set/resume > engage light) pass muster, but I think my roll-off switch isn't working, as it has no effect on the engage light. It doesn't click anymore, and when I check continuity at D & F on the cruise module as per the manual (diagnostics step 3) there is none either at rest or roll-off. That would suggest to me that there will be no power coming from that switch and the cruise would be unaffected by it. Does anyone know?
Since I don't even use the roll-off switch I can't see replacing the cable if that's the only function that switch has. The manual says that unless there is continuity at roll-off and no continuity at rest the cable should be replaced. I would think that if there was no continuity at all either way the cruise would work unless the problem originates elsewhere.
Later edit: Neither brake will activate the cruise-activated light (green) when in diagnostic mode, as it is supposed to according to the manual, but the brake lights both work perfectly. I also did the cable-lash initialization and the servo didn't operate. Bad servo or module?
Even later edit: Fixed! Cable housing had pulled out of clip in induction module. Now working fine.
