I can't find any threads specific to cruise problems on TBW bikes. Mine goes out intermittently. I use it all of the time and it will work for long periods and then give me trouble. When if acts up it either won't engage or disengages often. Sometimes when on bumpy roads. I know it can be a brake light switch, or clutch lever switch. But how can you check it without just buying parts? Like I said it doesn't happen all of the time. When it quits the orange light is out or flickers. But when parked it lights up with the ignition. Is there a troubleshooting procedure for it? The brake light switches seem to actuate the brake light fine. I understand it only takes a minor touch of the switches to shut off the cruise.
In the FSM there is a complete troubleshooting procedure for the CC. If you don't have an FSM you should get one. It will pay for itself on the first repair you make yourself. The electrical manual is a big plus as well.
I have one. I just thoroughly went through it again and there isn't a single word about cruise control except the wire labels in the diagrams in the back. This is an '09.

I have one. Maybe other years are different, but the one for my 09 doesn't say a word about cruise. Other than the wiring diagram.
Does anybody have ideas? I'm afraid of how much it would cost to take it to the dealer if they just throw parts at it. The orange light in the gauge just won't stay on. I've tried wiggling the brake lever and pedal and also the clutch lever while going down the road but it doesn't make a difference. I tested all of the fuses. This may not make sense but it works more often in cool weather like in the morning. Lately it doesn't work much later in the day.
To trouble shoot if it is a clutch or brake light switch. This is what I do. First I jump the brake switch down at the handlebar in fairing so it will never engage the brake light. If problem persist. I hook up brake light normal and jump the clutch switch.
Keep in mind that this will rake away the ability of the clutch or brake from turning off the cruise.
If the orange light is not staying on, that has nothing to do with brake light switches. Those would only switch it from green to orange. Not turn the light off completely. I'd start at the cruise on/off switch and main cruise circuit itself.
Also on big bumps, that's common for it to turn off but again, the light should go to orange, not off. Usually that's caused by you twisting the throttle when you hit the bump. You do know that throttle input, either rolling it forward or full throttle will disengage the cruise as well, right?
Start moving wires around that go to the cruise on off switch, if you have internal wires in the bars my guess is in there is the issue, also move wires around at the neck in front of the tank and watch the cruise light.
I have seen several with broken wires at the neck.
