Default Oil vs. Engine Temp

Was wondering whether there is a good rule of thumb on what oil temp would be given a certain engine temp. With my PowerVision tuner mounted on the scoot, I can monitor the engine temp, which tends to hover from 244-252. Thanks for any input.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have a 08 96 cu in and se 255 cams. In 100 deg heat running down the road at 65 mph I see 265 engine temp and 215 oil temp. Now sitting at a stop light in traffic it will quickly climb to 300 et and 235-240 ot.

I'm going to say no rule of thumb calculation for ET/OT, I used to believe 10-15% until recently. I'm monitoring front and rear CHT, aka ET, and OT at 4 points in the system. While stationary, I have observed oil pan temps at 220F while the ETs were above 340F, and I have seen 215F OT and 260F ET under normalized highway cruise conditions. The OT changes slowly, while the ET changes very quickly. With the different rates of temperature change and all the other operational variables, I'm convinvinced there is no predictable correlation between the two that might allow a "rule of thumb" conversion, other than OT goes up as ET goes up.

Ted, don't over-think this thing, just ride. Unless you are in some extreme circumstances, none of that matters.

My 09 Ultra goes into parade mode (EITMS kicks-in) when the oil temp is around 230F at the gauge. Parade mode is triggered by the ECM when the front cylinder head temp hits 287F. It means that there's a difference of 55F to 60F between head temp and oil temp. By the way, I have an oil cooler.
For what it's worth.

Yes, this is what happens when I haven't ridden in over a week . Winter is even worse. Thanks all.
