Default Tempermental Neutral Switch

I did a group ride about a month ago and found my self in low gears for alot of it and the neutral light came on and pretty much stayed on (as did the security light ...and I don't have a security system). A little while later the idle started sticking at about 2500-3000. I managed the situation till the end of the ride and shut the bike down. When I started it back up the idle issue was gone but the neutral situation continued. I have extended warranty coverage and was certain it was the neutral switch so off to the dealership I went. They went over it and the only thing they found was a loose battery cable and they said that was the cause of the problem.

Weeks later at the end of another pretty long ride where the bike was running pretty hot the neutral light came on and pretty much stayed on. When I rode it the next day everything was fine.

I'm still thinking that it's the neutral switch but I'm open to ideas...got any?

Since you have the warranty, I'd take it back to the dealer and say "look, battery cables are not loose but still having the issue". Make em fix it.
You're right, likely the switch.

Next time your security light comes on, do a code search and you should be able to isolate the problem

I definitely will make them get to the bottom of it and fix it

My bike is less than a month old (2011 Streetglide) 1100 miles and it is doing the same thing. First time it happened I was using the cruz control. It comes and goes but it's always the neutral and the security light. I don't have security on my bike. I have an appointment tomorrow so we will see what they find.

Had a similar issue, installed a new switch and still had the problem, turned out the main transmission plate bolts worked loose so the gearset was kinda floating in the housing, interfering with the neutral switch contact on the mainshaft. Torqued em back down, not a problem since.
