2010 SG completely stock, except for a Bub 7 slip-on.
The wife and I took a ride yesterday to a little tourist town
about 50 minutes from the house.
The temps were between 65 and 70 degrees, and we were traveling
anywhere from 35 to 60 mph.
When we got into town, which is about 8 blocks long, with traffic moving
around 10 mph, the bike goes into limp mode.
I'm using Mobil 1 syn, and I measure it cold, at halfway between full and add.
The oil has about 2500 miles on it.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'd hate to see what happens riding 80 mph in 100* weather.
Probably as simple as a wiring harness connector causing the fault. Tough to find without diagnostic equip. Heat and oil probably have nothing to do with the problem.
Friend just had a similar problem with a 2010. Many fault codes. Tech ended up discussing with HD in Milwaukee and they used pigtails to bypass the connectors til they found the one causing the faults.
Sounds like a connector or grip sensor problem. The heat did not cause your bike to go into limp mode. If it happens again see if the bike threw a code. If it is still under warranty get it in and have them look at it. Bwana beat me to it....lol
arlinsg; EITMS only engages @ idle speed when hot so no need to worry when out running 80mph. Definitely agree it shouldn't come on when it's 65-70 degrees outside (too low) so I agree w/bwana1 in getting the bike checked for warranty service.
....belive me friend I know the F"Frustration" just had mine in to the dealer today (FLHTK "11") they found no codes and said it got wet and there was a crusty bug around the ECM connector (was not rainning when it happen the other day only on the ride in today to get ti looked @)
I feel this is a "SAFETY" Issiue and they (MOCO/Dealers)
need to take this seriously!!! good luck -n- ride safe
Thanks, guys. The bike is still under warranty, so I'll let them take a look at it.
I did put some 575 WOs on, but that was 2500 miles ago. Hopefully it isn't something I did, when pulling wires.
I ran it about the same speeds coming home, and it didn't do it when I got into our
neighborhood.
I'm going to take it out again today to see if I can replicate the problem.
