Any tips on what to bring for us first timers. Gear, Clothes, tools, food and shelter. Are you guys hitting a laundry mat to cut down on clothes.
Im leaving Aug. 1st, returning the 11th due to appointments.
Ill have my 10 Ultra with tour pack.
Any info is appreciated. Ride Safe.
Other things to consider are buying the camping gear there at Wal-Mart and abandoning it when leaving. Buying shirts there rather than bringing some etc. etc.
do a search. i think theres a couple of posts about this.
underpack. anything forgotten can be picked up along the way at walmart or something similar. do laundry at a hotel at night. find the post office, buy the biggest box you can and mail things you pick up along the way and dirty clothes you dont need back home.
wife and I pac the same for 1 week or 5 weeks - one pair of levi's (the ones we have on) two or three extra underwear/socks/t-shirts - laundry every 3/4 days. If I travel by my self - that can be extended, lol....
Rain Gear is a must - are you camping????
I was there three years ago - just before the BIG event - much nicer riding with less people.. Weather was great.. However, history has shown, good weather and then Hail storms of the century.... be prepared and have fun..

Couple more things, the trip is about 1400 miles one way, shorter on the way back. Going to camp where ever we don't have motel access. I Will have tent and sleeping bag. Thinkin of have a pad for sleeping on?
Only going to be me and a buddy on two bikes. May meet up with others (his friends). Not looking forward to riding with others, i haven't road with.
Best travel tip I ever learned was this. Throughout the year, save up your items that are "almost ready to throw away," such as socks and underwear. Take them on your trip, wear, and throw away. Each day you gain a little more room in your saddlebags for the inevitable T-shirts and souveniers.
If you know where you are staying, you can UPS or USPS or FedEx a box of stuff to be waiting for you there. Use the box again to send stuff home.
Ship tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, lantern (battery), and any other items you don't need to carry ahead. Almost all campgrounds offer this service, as well as laundry and showers. ENJOY !
