My tune with the SEPST was Dyno tuned with an AFR of 12.5 across the entire band. I consistently get 42-43 mpg and when running between 55-66 mph I can get 46-49. The scoot runs cool especially with the cat gone and the EITMS has not kicked in once this year but, I do most of my riding here in the country, no downtown stop/ go. My issue with the HD cooler is with getting to the oil filter and cleanup there after. A friend has this one and bitches about it all the time.

CREX39.....I also experienced the same issue using Amsoil last year on my cross country trip, with the same burnt black oil results on my 08'SG. Many here disputed my results, have not used Amsoil since and never will.

I ran an Oil cooler on my Shovelhead and EVO. I have just added a Factory Oil Cooler to my '09 Road Glide and have seen it run 15 to 20 degrees cooler, even in 100+ degree days. An Oil Cooler is a great investment. I, personally went with the Factory Oil Cooler because it was designed by the Factory to fit and work without blocking the air flow to the cylinders. I also like the look.

It comes right down to this (IMO),

If you are in Stop and Go traffic, get the Parade Fan. It cools the motor better than any cooler with or without a Cooler Fan.
If you are moving a Cooler Fan is not necessary. The air will flow across the cooler and a fan will block some of the "Free Air" that would enter the cooler.

Any Oil Cooler is a great benefit to keeping the motor run cooler. But I question most fans that are added to any cooler. With the location of a cooler that is out of the way of the cylinder's air flow will put the fan in a danger zone and make it prone to failure. If the Cooler is elevated to get the fan up and away from the hazards on the road will block some of the cylinder air flow and defeat the cooling of the motor. I have not seen any fan that has been shown to last more than a few years of real riding. The fans on automobiles are protected within the engine compartment. The ones used on a Motorcycle are exposed and in more danger to failure. Even the fans on water cooled bikes are not exposed, but protected under shields, or within the motor. So unless you are looking to replace the Oil Cooler fan on a regular basis, I would steer clear of Oil Coolers with a fan. But that is just my opinion.

iclick - In the 60's they went to 180 to improve defrosting and heating abilities as the public became "softer".

The earliest 195 I knew of stock was the 1975 model years when cats were first installed.

160 stats are a performance mod for the C5's and C6's. I have them in my 02 coupe with the LS1 and 05 coupe with the LS2. Haven't found one for the 08 LS3 coupe yet.

I dont see how some are saying cooler oil temps don't have anything to do with a cooler running engine. Seems like an oxymoron to me...

My '71 Camaro SS350 also had a 195° thermostat form the factory. I put a 160° in it but decided that was too cool for winter, so I settled on a 180°. This is the Corvette forum, right?
