Default Oil cooler, does it help much?

How much difference did you notice after installing the HD premium oil cooler? Ive got the setup you see in my sig and in these hot summer days weve had lately, my EITMS has been kicking in quite a bit. Im hoping the oil cooler will cool things down a good bit.

My bike runs about 10-15deg cooler on the road after putting on The HD cooler. In traffic it won't help much and Your EITMS will still activate. Don't know much about the fans that mount behind the cooler, but many have said here that the fan helps when stuck in traffic.

I have an oil cooler on my 10 Ultra. Then I put in a Cobra Fi2000r programmer that adds info downstream of the HD ECM to boost the AFR to 12.1 to 1. Last year on the trip in late July to Key West in the 105 degree tropical heat wave, I got stuck in stop and go traffic due to an accident for about an hour. The bike never went in EITMS mode.

This year a couple weeks ago after leaving the PCH, I went through Death Valley in the afternoon to Stove Pipe Wells where I stayed at the motel until the next day. Running 87 octane and again the bike did not go into EITMS mode.

From that point on I went through Nevada, AZ, NM, Texas and Oklahoma were it was 105 every day. No EITMS mode again. And yes it is turned on.

With an oil cooler and the right AFR, the TC96 will run as good as the motors of yore.

I have the HD Oil Cooler and here in So Cal and in the Desert Southwest I've never had the Cylinder Cut-out activate and the oil temps have stayed below 230 F ever since I installed the Oil Cooler. I have found it to be money well spent.

I have one on my '06 Glide, and I'm not sayi'n its a waste of money...but. I was stuck on 480 south of Cleveland and a wreck shut down the highway. I sat inching as 4 lanes were funneled down an off ramp it took about 45 minutes. Many idiots, no traffic control so we all waited for a very short green light at the base of the ramp. It was about 75 degrees out and dark. My rear jug heated up something fierce and my pressure dropped to 15 psi. I gradually got my pressure back up when we started moving on the back roads. Next day I change the oil after only 700 miles as I thought it was scorched. I was running the ever popular Amsoil at 11 bucks a quart, and the oil was done. That is the last drop of that crap that is going in my engine. I can get the same results with Castrol 20W50 synthetic at $28 a gallon. I just don't think unless you get one with a fan you will notice any difference.

Oil coolers cool your oil, most of them do a pretty good job at cooling your oil, and some do a little better than others, but they don't cool your engine. EITMS is activated by CHT, cooling your oil will not prevent EITMS. I recently read an interesting factoid on an air cooled aircraft engine site that claimed an AFR enriched to 13.5:1 will produce the same CHT as stoich, but the EGT would be lower than stoich. Don't know if that is tested and proven for surface operated internal combustion engines, but it is pretty much in alignment with what I have observed while doing my own tuning for several years. To each their own, but I'm not going to run 12:1 AFR and blow 20% of my fuel out the tail pipe.

I put the hd oil cooler on my ultra classic 2 weeks ago Ive made 3. 500 mi, trips since then keeping a close eye on the temp, Ive noticed any where from 10 to 20 degrees difference in highway miles. That is fully loaded. I think it is worth the money.

There's a thread on here about the new Jagg cooler with fan, which makes more sense.
UltraCool also makes one.

Jagg is also selling a fan kit to put on your Harley cooler.

the HD cooler and the parade fan is a must if you are in a metro area with lots of stop and go traffic as well as bumper to bumper traffic.

if you are in a rural area with open roads and little stops, won't be much ROI.
