yeah, there's more benefits to it than that though. you have almost complete control of your ipod through your hk unit and handlebar controls. your ipod will constantly charge while plugged in, and the sound quality going through the data cable is better than the sound quality going through the headphone jack. plus i leave my ipod plugged in and stashed and don't have to mess with it at all.

is that worth the money? to me it is, to you it might not be.

I agree with everything you aid - except, my sound through the cable is "quieter" I have to crank my volume up now to get any sound - any ideas on what I should look into?

I know this dosnt answer your question but, I put a lighter socket on the R/H side fairing and fitted a riders claw. The ipod (5th gen nano) plugs into the radio jack and the ipod is kept charging all day through the lighter plug. If I dont like a song I just jump to the next one using my thumb and I never have to take my hands off the throttle. The cables for the whole setup look neat and the cost was about $130 all up. This option works very well for me.

don't know what the problem with yours would be. i would double check all your settings on your ipod to see if that would have any effect.

are you using the hd boom ipod interface or the onthemovetechnology one? if the hd one, do you have the latest revision for the install instructions? seems they had 2 pins reversed on the earlier instructions.

i also run all my mp3s through media monkey (free) to 'normalize' them so they will all play at relatively equal volume.

Default iPOD INTERFACE

For those who are running their iPod using the jack on the front of their radio and want
a little more volume, here's a little trick that worked for me (which I no longer need because I run the HD iPod Interface unit and J & M Amp). You may try and burn your
music onto your iPod in a "hotter mode". Most songs get downloaded/burned to an iPod
at about 256mps. Change your download/burning settings to a hotter mode (e.g. 320mps).
Basically what happens is that song gets burned to the iPod with more volume, hence it
will come out of the Ipod with more volume......

Double check and make sure that your volume on your I-pod is up 100% (full volume), otherwise, sound suffers. I was trying to trouble shoot the problem for a week, until I read this little piece of info on a thread. Hope this helps. Let us know.

this is a good tip if you're running through the aux jack. if you're running your ipod through the interface, then the internal volume on the ipod has no effect on the volume through your system.

at least it shouldn't. if it does, then maybe you have something hooked up wrong.

Xcrossbow,

Great idea! Where did you get the right angle and male to male 1/8" adapters?

Thanks,

I put this in the other "iPod interface" thread. Might help.

I ruined my old gen3 nano in sturgis this year so decided to go with this for now. It's a new ipod shuffle with a 1ft cable on a piece of velco, less than $60 total. It will hold 500 songs and I just use one of my old playlists. I could do the same thing by burning an MP3 disc but I'm completely lost when it comes to anything regarding a computer. Now when I'm tired of the radio I just push aux and listen to my favorite tunes on shuffle.
