First post here. I ride a 2010 FLHTC. Every once in awhile when I start my bike, the radio comes on by itself within seconds of firing up. I'm certain it was off when I parked it, but for some reason it comes on the next time I start it. It doesn't worry me, and if that's the only issue I ever have with the bike, I'll be happy. I just find it weird.
It is wierd, but I have had the same experience since I got my bike - it seems to have a mind of its own. I got into the habit that I turn down the volume before I turn it off - that seems to stay in the memory - that way it isn't loud in the morning, etc.
Nope, not kidding.....and yes it is weird. Like I said, it's not annoying, and I can live with it. Just wondering if it was common or not. I'm getting the Tach replaced under warranty (inner condensation) so I'll ask the dealer to check the connections.
My radio has done the same thing many times.I always make sure I turn the radio off before hitting the kill-switch and turning my key/ignition to the off position...next time I start the bike, the radio will power itself up without me touching it. Not always, but enough times for me to think WTF.
The guys from Iron Cross Audio told me this is not uncommon. They said there is a small battery in the radio (like in a computer motherboard?) that stores the memory settings for the preset stations, band, audio, etc. Sometimes the battery/memory loses its charge temporarily and the unit/radio by default will power up when the ignition is turned on.
Make sense?...I guess that explanation is as good as any...if not call Iron Cross Audio and they can explain it better than I did. HA.
...Like you said, just a weird little quirk that makes you wonder why??
My 2010 FLHTC did the same thing after I got about 1000 miles. At the 5000 mile service my dealer changed the radio out for me. The new one hasn't come on by itself yet. Ask your dealer about changing it out if it is still covered. Seems like a common problem.
