I think it just more bling.
I established my own cool down point at 250F in the pan because I run conventional oil. Haven't been there since adding a cooler, I know this thanks to the gauge.

If you Zoom in and look at the Gauges, there isn't an oil temp gauge shown.

Kinda weird that the Touring models don't have any way to see what the oil temp is.

On a Softail, you can get the Oil Temp Dip Stick, but you don't have that option on a Touring model.

I'm fairly new to a Touring bike, am I missing something here?

Yes, there is an oil temp/level dipstick for touring models:

Thanks, I stand corrected.

I do think it's weird that on a bike like the Limited, you have to spend extra to know what the Oil Temp is.

The oil temp gauge is just as useless as the air temp gauge. I have the digital dipstick on mine, because I like the convienence of checking the oil level with a press of a button. The oil temp feature on the dipstick is about as usefull as **** on a nun.
BTW, even in traffic (no oil cooler) in the Florida summer heat, I have never seen it over 240. most of the time in normal riding, it will be 220, which is optimal.

When the bike bursts into flames, you should probably shut it off. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

There has been an oil temp gauge kit available for fairing harleys for awhile. Harley makes 1 and there is an aftermarket one. Cost is typically around 150.00 but you can get it for less if you shop around. I replace the compass on my RG as the compass and the air temp gauges are useless. As far as the dipstick oil temp...there are at least 2 versions. The digital Harley one and and aftermarket analog one. Why have an oil temp gauge...comes in real handy when I am baking in bumper to bumper traffic...let's me know exactly how hot I am running and when I should shut it down. I will run it till 275 at least and higher if the oil pressure stays normal.

Ok, so you claim an oil temp gauge is useless, but you have one, and you "used" the "useless" gauge to identify your peak and normal operating oil temperatures, in Florida summer traffic (no oil cooler). Where I'm from we call that talkin' out both sides of your neck. Oil gauge bad, But a digital dipstick, now that's a concept you can really get behind, huh.

There's always that 2% that has comprehension issues.........

What i said was that I bought the digital dipstick for the oil level feature, not the temp feature.
