Newbie here and tried saving a buck and do it myself!
I am in the middle of changing the primary oil on my 2009 Ultra Classic. I've drained everything and the book says I need 1.4 quarts, but the dealer only gave me one! Everything is closed and I have to get to work tomorrow! I happen to have a full quart of Amsoil that I had left over from an old bike...can I mix the two to be able to ride?
Your 09 takes 38oz. Technically you should open the derby and look to see that it just covers the bottom of the clutch basket. If it were me, I'd dump in the quart and ride it. Then I'd check it after and put in extra of whatever it was you bought (form+ I assume). Technically it is a wet bath so it will be slopped all around in there anyway.
Yeah man, the owners manual says 38fl oz in the directions and 1.4 qt (approx) in the specs. Thanks for the quick reply, I'm gonna dump a quart and head to work! Thanks guys! 50 miles one way won't hurt nothing? (probably a dumb question considering the wet bath, but I gotta ask).
Yeah just add the 6 ounces of Amsoil along with the quart of whatever you've got and that's fine. Just regular 20W-50 motor oil is what I use in my Primary. A quart will get you by, but if you have the Amsoil just top it off with that.
