I just intro myself on new member area. I'm 62 been riding since h.s. 1965.-kind old school i guess. I went looking for upgrade my 2011 ultra 96cu.cams only. Below is dealer quote---
super tuner 459.95 cam service gasket kit-103-95
roller tappet-29.95 kit-cam bearing asy. tc96 14.95
kit-adj tapered screamin push rods-164.95 sprocket retention kit 5.50

I then went to indy. He says $2500 because I need thundermax tuner $1000-2011-model because fly by wire doesn't give wide open throttle. WTF.
This money for two flippin cams. I can rebuild my smallblock 350 for this money for hell sakes.??? Whats with this wide open throttle stuff.? No offense, I'm new guy but you guys put this kind of money out for cams.??
This my 3rd hd but my 97 heritage andrew 27 cam was nothin like this.
Welcome to the forum! If your old school, pick up a service manual an do it your self. Not that bad of a job. Also do a search for a thread on cam changes by Iclick, did 255's and is real happy with the result. Have an 09 Ultra that has a stage 2 103cu done at the dealer when I bought it and it was around $1800. Take a look at MasterTune TTS for a tuner,it's what I have and am more then happy with it. May want to look at some other cams also, T-Man, Woods and cycleshack to name a few. Where abouts in the NW are you? I'm down by JBLM an if I can help give me a shout.
I got service manual and looked at it. I think your right on doing self. Still wondering about wide open throttle stuff. He didn't seem to be talking about rev limiter. Folks sure are proud of these tuner boxes (price). Is FM fuel moto? Thnx for replies.
Modern vehicles, both cars and bikes, no longer lend themselves to good ole fashioned backyard tinkering! They are designed to meet current exhaust and noise emissions regulations, so as soon as we start messing with them, to make them 'better', we have to correct some of that regulations related stuff.
Your bike has electronic engine management, so when changing your cams you need to be able to adjust the fuelling and ignition so they work right. That is what your indy is telling you.
Before you do anything I suggest you spend a bit of time reading through recent posts. There is a lot to learn! I have a small block V8 in my car, but you won't rebuild that for pocket money either - it has as much electronics on it as your new Harley!
