I am getting close to taking my 2009 Ultra in for the next 5000 mile service. While it is in, I want to get some things done to help with performance. The previous owner installed 3 1/2" Rinehart slip-ons but didn't do anything else. The dealer recommended the Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 air cleaner kit, the SE Race Tuner and of course dyno. He also suggested changing out the cams. He recommended the SE204 cam. I have seen some recent post talking about the SE255 cam which seem to be good. It seems like it takes about a half second for the bike to respond once I get on the throttle. To give you an idea of my riding style, I normally shift between 3000-4000 rpm. I'm open to all suggestions as it is getting close to take the bike in.
Jerry, you're going to get a vast array of opinions on this one. It would actually be nice to hear from someone whose had both the 204e and the 255. I've had the 255 before with no issues, I was very pleased with them. I have a 2011 FLHTK now and I'm pulling the trigger for another set of 255 cams now. They should be ready when I get back from my current tour, which I'll be retiring soon afterward.
The 204's is a good recommendation. I have them in my 2010 Ultra Classic and they do the job nicely. I have rode bikes with the 255's in them and they do pull nice down low but start to run out of steam around 4000 rpms where the 204's will keep on pulling until around 5500 rpms.
The Andrews 48h was designed as a all-round cam for the stock 96 and a great choice. The tw222 is also good but moves a little to the right. IMHO the SE204 lacks lift for a 09 and the 255s are really smog cams.

I have the extended warranty plan. Would going with a non HD cam effect the warraty?
I think the EPA cam 0ldhippie was referring to was the 253 and not the 255. The 255 will give you the best grunt to the lower rpm side of the powerband. As was stated, it quits earlier than the other stated cams, but it shouldn't effect you , if you shift out at 4000 rpm.
The slow throttle response can be taken care of by the Progressivity table of the SESPT.(race tuner)
All the suggested cams are great, I'll be doing the deed with cams soon. My big toss up is between the S&S 551 and Woods TW-222...great dyno sheets for both in the low - mid RPMs.
Till ya do it, its all speculation, but without a doubt you need an air cleaner...Fuel Moto has a good one that might work for ya if you don't like the A.N. AC.
