I ended up installing S&S Power Tune Duals and keeping my SE mufflers. So far the heat issue is different, but not sure it's actually better. THE S&S pipes cross under the frame so now the space behind the rear jug is open. I almost believe the heat is now coming from that area... but it's hard to tell. Definately different than before.
Now if I could only fix the rough idle since installing the pipes.
Purhaps you should consider heat shields like you see on my Ultra Classic. They make enough difference to make them worthwhile. The heat shields direct a lot of the rear cylinder exhaust heat and engine heat down.
I hate to add to injury here but if your wife refuses to wear the proper riding gear (boots) then you're having to either add or subtract stuff from an already expensive bike. We've bought our 09 brand new....didn't add any stage kits and left everything stock. About the only thing the wife might complain about is not stopping often enough. Yes the bike gets hot in the summer months but I don't keep lowers on when the temps rise above 75 and I have air deflectors on my wing that I can adjust to keep air flowing and that seems to help a lot
Good info shortride... I had looked at these and wondered if they really helped.
audettd... fair comments, and to be clear, my wife absolutely loves the bike andf wants to ride every chance we can... in fact since I bought it a little under a year ago we have put 16K miles on it. So it's not like she is making my life miserable. I am just trying to make her experience a little better if I can.

See the heat shields on Shortrides Ultra? Captain Itch cooler's work about three or four times better. Plus it's a solid peice with soft backing that goes accross under the seat directing more hot air away. keeps your seat cooler! I know the Capt and Isabell. They make great quality product's and stand behind them 100%. He told my wife to try the Cooler and if she didn't like it, send it back for a full refund. She and I both have them for summer riding. That was over two year's ago. We have the stock catted headpipe's on our bike's.
We are having a sale on our Crotch Coolers for a few more days..They work very well, and are very easy to install..If you have any questions please let us know..Thank you Larry
