hogtunes or JM upgrade
Joe
I decided against J&M because of the price vs. what I thought I would be getting. I can confidently hack a system together from sundry parts and sources, so the plug-and-play aspect wasn't that important to me. There are quite a few threads on the subject of stereo upgrades here, several appearing lately, so I would start reading-up on owner feedback from them. It is not an easy task, as sound quality is a subjective interpretation and not everyone can hear as well as the next guy. What sounds great to one will sound bad to another. It took me several weeks and I came upon the 125W/ch. RMS (@ 2Ω) Elf amp on Ebay, a refurb for $135, which was a great bargain. The Hertz speakers came later after even more painful deliberation, and I just got them installed a week or so ago.
First, don't expect thundering bass from a typical HD stereo upgrade, as it just isn't going to happen unless you get radical, like speakers in the saddlebags. You can have a nice sound, including decent bass response, that gets out to your ears even at highway speeds, but you'll need power and a speaker system that can handle it. I would look for at least 75W RMS per channel and a 6˝" or larger speaker.
Good luck and start your research.
