lots of opinions on differant cams i did buy from fuelmoto the 555 cam kit very easy to do and it comes with everything u need to the install. i payed $560.00 or more for the kit dont know if a canned map would work or not. i suspect it would help out but i had a thundermax in my bike and the bike runs perfect for me. it will do a great job for 2 up riding and pulling hills.
New inner cam bearings, gaskets, adjustable pushrods, fuel management system and dyno tune. If 25K-35K miles on the bike, new lifters.
There are many cam options but lots of members on this forum have installed and like the Woods 555 cams. If working with Fuel Moto, they have a variety of fuel management setups with "canned" maps and they have lots of experience with the 555 cams so you would start out with a "tune". If you go the TMax with auto tune route, Zippers will send the unit mapped for your configuration and the unit will "self tune" as you ride. Other fuel management systems will require a little more thought to minimize the amount of time you ride without a proper tune.
if all else fails i could just trailer it to my dyno tuner.
he has tuned a few cars and bikes for me, dude is top notch and his prices are very fair. and some times we do a little horse tradin so that helps out too lol
I bought a barely used set of S/E 255's off the forum. Had a fellow forum member come and help do the install, and also removed the rocker covers to re-use the stock pushrods. Job was fairly easy, but having the right tools helps tremendously. Had them in for over 8 months now, and they are a great 2-up cam. That's pretty much all I ride, and they pull like a freight train. Gas mileage is still in the mid 40's and it runs better than before.
2-1 Pro-Pipe also helped and is an awesome pipe. I bought the cam install kit from Fuel Moto, and picked up an assortment of cam spacers to have on hand. Kit was $60 and had everything needed for install. There are many great people on here to help; Biggzed, iclick, atrain68, to name a few.
I have the 96. Just had Jamie install the 555 cams for me. Instead of buying the tools he did the install in no time. Great trip as well. I am really having a lot of fun with the new cams. I wished now I would have installed the new lifters. Jamie told me mine looked good but debating if I should have just replaced the lifters while I was there.
