Default Stock Muffler Mods?

Have just ordered a new Street Glide and am considering modifying the stock mufflers for a BIT more sound. With my old '96 FLHT, I retained the stock mufflers, but drilled out the baffle plates that are about 8" in from both the front and rear of the muffler. This gave me the sound I was after. I find most aftermarket slipons too loud for all-day touring.
My question: Has anyone done any alterations to the '09-'12 stock FLH mufflers and if so what?
Thanks for the input.
John

The stock mufflers sound pretty good after you remove the CAT. You may just want to try that first. Usually stock mufflers with baffles removed sound like $hit and there is no back pressure so you will lose a little low end torque. Plus a good chance the mufflers will blue with the baffles removed.

I sent mine to American Custom Exhaust and they cut them out and replaced them with baffles that screw in, so I could take the baffles out and drill them as I want, or take them out completely.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm assuming that in order to remove the cat from the system, one would need to have new header pipes installed. Also assuming this will mean recalibration of the FI. I wasn't thinking of removing the baffles entirely as I agree that would probably not sound right. I'm looking for a simple mod to just get a bit more sound (like drilling a few holes in baffle end plates), if HD still uses the same design mufflers as on my '96. Anyone played around with just drilling the mufflers?
Thanks.

If you're not happy with the stock exhaust then get rid of it and go with a complete aftermarket system. Your bike will run better and sound better. Call Jamie at Fuel Moto and ask about their power package, trust me, do it!

All you do is remove the stock head pipe from the bike, cut it in half at the collector, remove the CAT material and have it welded back together. This will save you about $450. As far as drilling holes in the mufflers, never considered it because usually you get a horrible sound. You can get a set of slip on's if you want more sound. No EFI mapping required for this mod.
