i have a 2011 street glide 103 with 5000kms on it , stock motor , it developed a knocking noise when cold , and can hear plain as day when sits for 15 minutes , hold it at 2500 rpm and its a definate rod or bearing noise. dealer blew me off as valve train noise - its 100% not that , im not a rookie . Anyone else have a piston or rod noise yet ?
I dont have that just a whine coming from primary when its hot around 2500 rpm. IMO run it till it blows then its the moco's problem. I did that on a twin cam softail . A normal $6k build cost me $2K when all done.
do you have another dealer near you? Another option is to call HD customer service and telll them you are really concerned that the dealer thinks its valve noise and you are concerned its more serious.
Are you sure it's not the compensator? They will make noise that sounds like it's coming from the bottom end. Easy to check.
If not the compensator, go on record with the dealer and, as suggested, visit other dealers in your area. Write the MoCo a letter putting them on notice as well. Then ride the **** out of it and try to breake it. If it is a rod or crank, it will grenade and when it does, no one should be surprised when you bring it in for warranty claim.
I bought a 2012 Dyna Switchback, has the stock 103. Have only 500 miles on it and have also been hearing what sounds like a rod knock at low speed/low rpm for the last couple hundred miles. Louder in the am now that weather is starting to get cooler.

Whats the easy way to check if its the compensator? I have some noise too sence changing over to th SE compensator & would like to make sure thats all it is.
Thanks
I see you have some mods done, are you sure that it's not spark knock? My '11 didn't do it until I added cams, then I'd get terrible knock. It's a timing issue and sounds like small rocks hitting your fender.
