I got a set of chrome housing for the switches on my 2011 Electra glide, while I was able to get the top half off I could not figure out how to get the bottom half off ( the part with the volume and ptt buttons). Has anyone swapped these?
I replaced the housing on my RKC last year. It doesn't have the radio buttons, but it does have the cruise control. I had the same problem and started unscrewing everything I could find. After I got it to come out, I found that there is a cable clamp that needs to be unscrewed. This will give you enough slack to remove the lower cover. Then you can remove the switches.
It was a real PITA, but after the first time, it was easier. Just be sure not to pinch any wires when you are putting it all back together.
Clip the cable zip-tie that holds the wires to the plate underneath. I then slid the vinyl insulator sleeve further away to get more room. There is a screw at the bottom. Be sure to move the sleeve back & put a new zip-tie on. This job will test your patience.
Now that I'm looking at the drawing, I remember that I had to remove the screws holding in the lower bracket (#7) and pull the switches out of the housing before I could get the lower cover off. It was a pain, but it did come out.
I forgot about that tie wrap. That needs to come off first, then you can get to the screws under it.
