Reason for Ipod Interface?
Well unless you edited your original post before I saw it. It made perfect sense to me.
You had a some sort of a Apple device that was not secured well and it fell off hitting the highway at 70 mph.
But if you had had the I-pod interface it would have been secured inside the saddlebag and this would not have happened.

Bingo!
So now i get the ipod interface @$400 - $500 im out an ipod @$300 and I need a new Ipod at another $300.
Funny, just the other day I read a thread where someone was touting the durability and superiority of Apple products.
Guess I'm better off with a $40 player and $5 worth of velcro. (BTW: I saw a cheap player skip down the highway with no damage other than a few scratches).

You are absolutely right, not even sure why I tried it, the only thing I can think of is because I had my father following me, and did not want to pull over just to click shuffle.
Hob, thanks I will check that out, the good news is, I no longer need all the fancy stuff to put it in a nice protector in the saddlebag, as all its going to be is a solid state drive connected right to the radio and left there. Ill have to get a new ipod for me to carry around.

Yep, you won't lose it from the claw.
