I'm no expert but I believe they are welded in. My friend has an 05 Sporty that he did some "modifications" to. He said he took the stock slip on mufflers off and drove a piece of pipe through them to open them up some. It seemed to work, they sound pretty good and he says he didnt notice any loss of power or back pressure.

While the sound may improve typically the performance will drop, this as been done before with that result .

My brother bought a set of those sunday and they sounded like crap. We drilled the rivets out of them and pulled the guts out and sawed it all off right behind the cat. It sounds a heckuva alot better now, a fairly deep mellow sound that talks to ya pretty good when you make it pull. These were brand new for an 07 that required the end caps on them. I like the way it sounds now.
