Front Tire
Bike: 2009 H-D Electra Glide Classic
I thought I'd post this and maybe help out anyone else with a similar issue.
A few weeks ago I took my bike to Laugerman's in York, PA for a noise front end, sounded like tire noise. The service guys there told me that I needed a front tire and had me talk to the clerk for an appt. A few days later I checked the forum and found a thread about these tires having a recall so I called my home dealership, Chesapeake H-D in Darlington, MD, and spoke to service. I was told that it may indeed be a recall and depending on tread wear, a discount could be made.
I had an appt and went yesterday morning. After wandering around the showroom for about five minutes the service guy comes out and tells me that once they put my bike on the lift and spun the front tire they could hear the bearings.. and they were shot. So, since I purchased the extended warranty, I was charged $50.00 to have the tire put on and new bearings instead of paying for the tire labor fee in addition to the deductible of $50. The tire was covered 100%!!
Hope someone else can take advantage of a new & free tire.

About a week ago a buddy and I were riding about 60 miles from home, and his front bearing on his '09 ultra went out with only about 25,000 miles! Just recently I read another 09 on the forum had a front bearing go out, now you.
Is there a pattern?

I only just took my 2007 Buell wheels in for their first new tyres and all the bearings were shot. Different bike and bearings I know, but this does show a worrying trend. My 1990 Glide still has her original front wheel and tapered bearings (I changed the whole rear wheel).

I have a 2010 Roadking FLHR, took mine in to get a new tire at about 22,000 miles and was told my front bearing were shot. Still under warranty so that did not cost me. I was told they never seen them go out that fast, not a warn a fuzzy feeling to say the least.

Does seem like a trend here. I asked the service guy why would the bearings go so soon and he couldn't say why and that they shouldn't need replacing until many miles later. Says he saw some '10s come through with the same problem. I neglected to mention that I only have 9k on the bike.
