Default Ultra question

Hello I am going to take a look at some bikes today. Currently have a 03 RKC and have really enjoyed the miles on it. I have been eyeing up the Ultra for the past couple of years and I think I am ready to at least start seriously looking. My wife is not as excited about the Ultra as I am... She said she is not ready to look like a "grandma" riding down the road yet. She is also concerned that her seating position is going to change and she will be sitting farther away from me etc... She has seen too many women reading books rolling down the highway and heard stories of wives falling asleep sitting back there hence the grandma comments. Ultra owners please give your opinions on this.

I am ready for the comforts of the Ultra. I was originally thinking street glide but have seen many posts about t being a harder ride for the passenger. Does not sound like the street glide would be an upgrade from the king in that respect.

Not decided if I am going to keep the king or not. 03 with 56k dealer offered $9300 in trade yesterday but I do love it and in the position to possibly keep it so that is undecided. Found a 09 Ultra 4000 miles stage 1, bub 7 exhaust and some extras for $21k to include 5 year extended warranty. Very clean very temping..

Thoughts?

Im 37, wife is 38, we just got an 11 2 months ago, She cant be happier. As am i. Just did the Headpipe cat removal, and need to get her on the bike and see her comfort now.
She did comment to me, that on a 3 hour jaunt out to the cape the right side of the bike almost became unbearable, and in fact i had to put her in a car with my father when we hit the traffic at Bourne Bridge.

Other than removal of the cat, I have fallen in love with this bike.

Go for the Ultra. It's nimble for a bagger and the changes you can make for comfort are limited by your imagination and wallet. My spouse rides and yet she prefers the back seat ride of the Ultra. She finds it more relaxing to be wrapped in that big back rest than to ride two up on any other set up.

..... that's sorta like thinking that starlet hottie riding shotgun in a Bentley Continental is any less hot, just because she's not in a Ferrari.
........ after a few hundred miles, she'll appreciate that big backrest & plush seat.

Bought my first Harley this year. My wife didn't care what bike I bought as long as it had a Tour Pak. This is her first year riding with me and she loves it, even after watching a guy fall off his bike on the Interstate, in the rain. I thought she'd never get back on, so she must feel secure back there.

21k is too much for a 09. You should be able to get a new one for that money.

Listen to your wife. You don't need that flying couch. You will miss the Road King!

When I found my Street Glide, the only requirement my wife made was it had to have the tour pak. She loves riding with the pak on. She won't get on it without it...even with a regular backrest. She calls it her lazy boy seat. Dont think she has ever fallen asleep...but my 10 y/o son does, so I don't let him ride with me anymore.

Get an EG Classic with quick release tourpak, 6" recurve windshield. Looks similar to Street Glide and in just minutes your back to touring mode. Thats what I did and the wife and I are very happy with the decision to go that direction.

Flying couch? Ya' know you CAN ride without the wings extended.

Here's my story.
I've owned a Dyna for years and it would take a lot of coaxing to get my wife to ride with me anywhere and when she would, it would be short trips, one or two hours tops. Finally got myself an Ultra and both of us love it. I kept my Dyna just in case but after putting over 2K miles on my Ultra, I last weekend took the Dyna out for a quick spin and after only 5 miles couldn't wait to get it back to the barn. The Ultra is a Barcalounger on wheels but man it makes riding that much sweeter to me. Oh, and also. When the detachable tourpak comes off and I slap on my custom C & C Solo and switch out the big windshield with my 7" Longride it is a completely different bike. Still a comfortable ride with even better handling and more of a Street Glide look. The Dyna is up for sale.

I have a 08 UC and my girlfriend just loves it. We just did a 2400 mile ride and it was wonderful. It was the first time she had been on a bike since a accident back in the middle 80's. She said it was her biggest fear getting back on a bike. Now she can't wait to ride. It hauls both of us and all of our clothes and any speed in comfort. Not that it matters but I'm 63 and she's 50. And 2 up on a Ultra looks great no matter what your age. Go for it.
