it's the catalyst, get rid of it by changing the head pipe to any decent aftermarket unit. Catalytic converters get hot enough to cook on, it's in their nature. Read any owners manual for a jeep, they tell you to proceed with extreme caution when off roading in tall dry grass, there's a reason for that. The catalytic converters in cars will ignite anything that's dry and flammable that's directly in contact with the converter. Yoor bike will love you for getting rid of the catalst. It will actually be able to efficiently expel the exhaust.
Actually, the cat is hot, but no where near as hot as the rear cylinder head. Removing the cat only makes the headpipe about 30 degrees cooler. Removing the cat does nothing about lowering engine heat.
I got rid of the cat and put on the V&H power duals along with the twin slash ovals and a stage one ac , dialed in a v&h fuel pak and away we go. did it after 250 miles so I never really felt the heat everyone talks about, ride safe,,...o~' o

True, when I cut out the cat it reduced the radiant heat from the right side, where the cat is. But it had a negligible affect on the oil temp.
I was seriouly considering trading in my 06 Heritage 88 Twin Cam on a new 103 RK , after hearing about all the heat issues I am not trading mine in on a new bike , thanks to all for the info .
Since getting tuned and changing to Amsoil, I never see over 260. Even when stuck in stop and go. On 90 deg days running 70mph, I run about 220 even two-up. Doesn't take long for the bike to get up to 260 once I hit stop and go.
Normal driving, no highway, she runs about 230.
I just think the 103 is a "hot" motor.

I heard that.
My 06 has no heat issues and with the 95" motor build it has as much power as a 103.
Tank lift is a good idea
Any oil cooler is a plus
a fuel enrichment solution is a plus
mid frame deflectors
parade fan wired backwards
stage 1 with no cover
