Default No throttle response

Hey last night I was out riding with some people we ended up going down to DC and got stuck in some traffic. After we got to where we wanted to go I parked and went in. I came out to leave and realized that I had little to no throttle response I could roll the throttle full and barely get the bike to move the engine light was on. I got the bike a couple of blocks away so that I could call someone with a trailer and shut the bike down. I waited about 10 min and started the bike back up and it seemed to be fine has anyone ever had this happen to them

Just went through all of this with my 2010 Street Glide (15,000 Miles)....defective induction module. Got her fixed under warrenty but had to wait a month and a half for the "restricted" part to get to the factory from a new vendor ! Hope your problem is an easier one brother. Good Luck !

yea the bike went into "limp mode" there seems to be some problems with the Throttle by Wire systems that are totally random from what I see. I have a throttle position sensor replaced the second time I went to the dealer with the engine light on. I recently had it happen to me again but it seemed to be caused by a "hicup" in the motor. I checked and cleared the codes myself and have had no issues since. Here is the way to check the codes yourself.

Harley Davidson 2008 DTC Code Reading (draft)
Harley Davidson DTC Codes – Unofficial Guide Page 1
The odometer display is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). I’ve complied this listing to assist
people in reading their own displays in an emergency situation as it may facilitate getting your motorcycle back on
the road. The information in this document was gathered from various places in the internet and compared to the
service manual for my 2008 Electra Glide. Abbreviations are at the end of this article. While this document may have
errors and omissions, keeping a copy in your owner’s manual or tool pouch might get you out of a bind. Visiting the
dealer is recommended to resolve problems, use this as a last resort.
Procedures
1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting should illuminate,
speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and
cruise) should illuminate. This is called a wow test by some companies. The word “diag” should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to
check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP
to t and back to P, etc.)
Understanding the codes, there are blocks of trouble codes, assigned as follows;
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
HFSM = Hands Free Security Module (alarm system and anti theft device)
TSM = Turn signal module
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release.
If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the
odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.
7 - Record the codes, keep a written copy in case the dealer needs them later to solve problems.
8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer
reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition
switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it
will reappear.
9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.
10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.
"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the
off position when doing this procedure.

BAS – Bank Angle Sensor
CCM – Cruise Control Module
CKP – Crank Position Sensor. The CKP generates an “AC
signal” which is sent to the ECM where it is used to
reference engine position (TDC) and speed.
DTC – Diagnostic Trouble Codes
ECM – Electronic Control Module. (The Computer)
Computes the spark advance for proper ignition timing
and fuel control based on sensor inputs
(from CKP, MAP & TP sensors) and controls the lowvoltage
circuits for the ignition coils and injectors.
The dwell time for the ignition coil is also calculated in
the microprocessor and is dependent upon battery
voltage. The programmed dwell feature gives adequate
spark at all engine speeds.
ECT – Engine Coolant Temperature. Sensor also controls
the cooling fan relay that provides 12 Vdc to the fans.
EFI – Electronic Fuel Injection
EFP – Electronic Fuel Pump
ET – Engine Temperature sensor
FI – Fuel Injectors
FPR – Fuel Pressure regulator
IAC – Idle Air Control actuator
IAT – Intake Air Temperature sensor
ISS – Ion Sensing System…detonation detection
MAP – manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. The MAP
sensor monitors the intake manifold pressure (vacuum)
and sends the information to the ECM.
The EMC then adjusts the spark and fuel-timing advance
curves for optimum performance.
TP – Throttle Position Sensor
TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
VE – Volume Efficiency
VSS – Vehicle Speed Sensor. Used as an input for idle
speed control

Thanks a lot

It is an 09 with under 10k miles, I did do pyo bars about 2 months ago not sure if that could have caused any problems with the tbw system

Default Not a fan of TBW......

I have had my throttle go into limp mode on two different days. The first time it was just once. Today it did it 5 seperate times. The bad thing is I use my FLHX as my primary vehicle. I called the dealer and they told me there is an issue that develops when the throttle sensor either on the throttle body or in the handgrip get hot. I dont have problems riding home from work at night but have had them riding to work in the 95 degree afternoon sun. I got the check engine light as well.

I had heard there was a way to get the codes without a reader, thanks Bouncer for posting that info it is going into the database.

I will keep you posted on what the fix is for mine. I know there is a service bulletin out on the throttles, got a copy from a independent bike shop. Sure wont find it on-line anywhere.
