Broken sensor wire in the wire bundle at the neck. Tech said very common problem. I'm out of warranty and could have waited til I got home to fix, but was uncomfortable continuing the ride w/o the ABS working so I went ahead and had it fixed. Couple hundred $$ later and all was well.
Am I the only one that has a real problem with jimd3246 being charged for this repair? Tech tells him it is a very common problem, showing there is a known problem involving this particular repair, and they STILL charged him a couple hundred bucks. That is plain BS in my book. Glad they got you fixed up though!
So, while on a 3k ride this past September, my light came on and stayed on. i was concerned because had my wife on the back and 1700 miles to go. It was a Saturday morning and I stopped at the Dealership in Palm Springs (don't recall name) and they got right on it. Wish I could recall name of the dealership, cause I say "kudo's" to them for taking me in on a Sat morning and making the old girl "right".
Dealers like that are worth mentioning for sure why I give Gainesville, FL HD Kudos for taking care of me on a saturday within a few hours and their busiest day and this was warranty work, while they had a dozen customers paying big bucks for an oil change waiting .. Don't see that often ..
I had a 2009 EG with ABS.... now I have a 2010 without.
Found out that it is inherent to the wiring harness of 2009+ bikes with ABS at the front left fork connector. The harness wire is too short and if snugged into the harness too much will loosen up on the plug and cause the failure... or will bend it too much about 3 inches back into the harness just up into the tank area.
Check the 2011's... the wire is longer to the plug.
Never liked ABS that much... Too much can go wrong and usually does. A piece of dirt can cancel it out. Had one tech say that it should have been a recall... just like the compensator sprocket/starter issue of pre 2011 bikes... but they did not tell anyone that they just installed the beefier sprocket on the 2011's and up as standard equipment did they???
