Default Upgrade requirement

Ok......I have to ask this question.........!

While I realize that my 2003 FLHTCI is not a scorcher it does get great milage,
can go really fast, and gets me where I want......other then doing cam and cyl etc
work when repairs become nessesary, is there REALLY any need to do this?

Are there any real benefits to max power vs decrease in fuel economy and less tire milage?
I did do the air filter/intake upgrade and SE slipons with STage 1 upgrade.

Safety chrome upgrades EXCEPTED!!

Dennis

Default RE: Upgrade requirement

There are no real requirements. There are many stock bikes that have lasted a long time and the owners are perfectly happy. Humans are creatures of habit. I can tell you that had I not found this forum, my bike would probably still be stock. Burn in he77 all you bastards, see the money that you cost me Honestly, the stage 1 upgrade and gear cams to get rid of the chains are probably the two best that anyone can do, everything else is pudding after the meal.

I did the 95 ci, SE 203 cams, SE A/C and a SE 6 speed trans on my 06.

The engine work was for passing performance and the trans was for the long hauls. Other than that I've only done racks and rails for hauling stuff.

I'm actually getting about 15-20% better mpg since going from a stage I 88 to a stage IV 95 , it's consistent over the last 8K miles. I always run premium gas , and Syn 3 .. no issues .

Dennis , not really a requirement at all.
If I waited till my bike had 4k miles , it might have idled better eventually.
As new , the bike idled pretty bad and ran out of steam around 3k RPM.
Was it rideable? Sure , but not my idea of rideable.
I'm a mechanic , so , gotta see what it "could" run like.
Carb mods , $5.00
Big Sucker , $100.00
Muffler mods , free.
Now it runs good enough for me,has way better throttle response, more power overall, and I'm happy as can be.
Do what "you" feel you need and don't worry what others do.
Eventually I'll do gear drive cams , only to get rid of some noise , and for long range dependability, not for more power.
I went from 45 MPG to 42 MPG and I'm thrilled with the outcome.
Mick
