Question Cam Selection on a 103 SE Stage IV build

I'm going to build my 103" soon and have been researching and calling around to determine the best bang for my buck without having to split the cases. With that said, I looks like i'm leaning toward the SE Stage 4 due to the cost and the fact that I'm in KY and don't want to risk having to drive back to WI if something went wrong with my first choice which was Fuel Moto 107" build. That leads me to the discussion of the SE259 cams and the fact that they don't come on until 3000-3300 RPM. I'm looking to get the torque band moving around 2500 due to my riding style and the fact that I ride two up a lot. Does anyone have any suggestions on alternate cams that come in earlier and would work well with the SE Stage 4 kit and the 58mm TB? I would like to see 110-115hp / 110/115tq or more if possible.

I would do the 107 kit. I think the SE stuff is way over priced and the out come is low IMO.

The compression is 10.5:1 and the cams that come with the kit are SE259.

The SE kit is $800 less and 800 miles less to drive also. So if I weigh the extra 5-10 ft/lbs tq. for the cost, it almost isn't worth the extra cost. Not to mention if something were to go wrong or needed to return to the shop, it's 100 miles vs. 800.

I'm still on the fence at this point though.

Can't quite remember that exact ones, but a member here that goes by "SSARMS", had his 2011 Street Glide done with a stage 4 as well by Las Vegas HD, they swapped the SE cams which I believe were the 260's back then. He made incredible results with the woods. I think they were the 400 G. Do a search, and you'll see he also posted his dyno sheet. Good luck...

IMHO the only reason to do the SE stage 4 is for warranty. Boring your jugs to 107, sending your heads out and throwing in a good midrange cam will get where ya want to be for under $3000. Lots of good builders out there to help ya with this.

Is this the kit you are planning to install?

IMHO, this is probably the best dealer 103" kit the MoCo offers. I agree that there are better aftermarket options but I also understand that there are reasons why one might want to go with a dealer kit.

A couple of options you could discuss with your dealer if a dealer build is your plan:

1. Install a 4* advance sprocket to bring in the TQ a bit earlier with the 259E cams.
2. Substitute the SE254 cams with an earlier intake close.
3. Substitute flat top pistons for the 10.5 CR pistons, .030" head gasket, install SE 204s with a set of 1.7 ratio rockers to increase lift to take advantage of the better flowing heads and larger TB.

If the dealer would go for #3, that would be my choice. JMHO.
