Default converting 96 Electra Glide to Road King headlight

I just picked up a 96 police electra glide, budget bagger project. I am looking to do a kind of road king classic custom bagger out of it. I want to do mostly blacked out front end with black wire wheels and just a little bit of tasteful chrome accents. I also took off the crash bars, and all the police lights, radio box and what not. Mechanically the bike seems pretty good but needs a bit of cosmetic work, to be ready for me to cruise it.

I have removed the stock fairing, and want to replace with a road King headlight assembly. I have a ton of wires to deal with now, and need to find a headlight setup. I am not totally sure if the headlight assembly will fit my bike or not, and if it would be easier to change the front section of wire harness with RK one to eliminate the extra wiring. I am not sure if my ignition switch on the tripple tree will work with that setup either.

Has anyone done this conversion before, any advice? Where to get used RK parts? Anything different about the Police bikes that would make this more of a problem, such as the air suspension on top of the forks?

hope you are good with wiring-

pretty much you are looking at doing a custom wiring job- so you can put the ignition switch where you want.

it's almost a blank slate...

you can go find parts at swap meets, the front ends are pretty much the same, it's just a matter of getting a nacelle and mounting it, then jamming all the wiring into it.
I doubt you would find a usable RK wiring harness that mates up with your main wiring harness...

You can stay with the air front end, on the 95 electraglides, the air ran in through the left handlebar.
But the air is not a great system and you might be happier just to make it simple and do away with the air.

You bike may have milled heads and 9.6:1 compression, just so you know if you ever need pushrods, get adjustable- standard length HD may not fit ( some cop bikes were milled, some not)- milled heads also may have sealing problems at the intake / heads just a little fiddly.

wiring- you can't solder connections on a motorcycle, the wires will break due to vibration. You'll have to plan it out, lay it out, loom it, then crimp all your ends on.

Have fun- Mike

If I have to I can just take some time and go through the wiring and eliminate all that I don't need and modify what I need, that is not a problem but just sounded easier to plug up a harness from the other bike. I was wondering if I could just eliminate the air suspension stuff on top of the forks, that might be the way to go.

I had heard there were differences with the police motors to get some more power, I heard they changed the cams from a couple people but will keep the milled heads in mind when doing any motor work.

I also wonder if you could run a whole road king front fork assembly on my bike but I think the rake is different, which would throw the trail off with the wrong length forks and cause it to handle differently.
