Default Another new ride

Hey ya’ll,
I guess some would say I’m moving up in the world and others would say I’m just getting old, but I just bought me a 2003 Electraglide classic. I was in the process of trying to make my fatboy a dual purpose bike, with removable sissy bar for a travel bag and windscreen and all that. But since I have been drooling over the Streetglides for so long, and have a bad habit of spending money foolishly, I bought this instead. And as I paid about half of the price of a new glide, I’m satisfied with modifying this bike over buying new.
So, as this is an older model and since I want to go for the updated “Hot Bagger” look, I’m going to be researching a bunch of changes I want to make. If anyone has done stuff to an older bike like mine I’m open to hearing how you did it.

21” front wheel and tire.
Wider rear tire. I have a solid 18x5.5 rear wheel I was gonna use on something else, so it would be cool if I could make this fit with a 160 or 180 rear, but if I can’t I’m not gonna sweat it.
Newer model Brembo brake calipers. Has anyone tried retrofitting these? Would they bolt to the forks and is the offset the same? I’m keeping two rotors in front.
Stereo upgrades. Would there be any way to use a newer model radio or to put in a car head unit and keep the handlebar controls? Are the speaker openings smaller than the new models? Harley has a different part number for the older bikes, but I couldn’t see what the difference is. What is the speaker size? What do ya’ll use for speaker upgrades and amps?
6 gallon tank. Anyone swap one?
Lowering.
And eventually engine work. Right now I’m thinking big cubes with a touch of head work and a torquey cam, but that is a long way off (I hope).
Mini apes. I want something about 4” higher than whats on there now.
And a bunch of other basic stuff.
It’s got 26000 miles and has been sitting for about 4 years. Some of the chrome has rust on it that I hope will clean up and the paint has some marks from not-so-nice care in storage. First thing is to get all the fluids changed and check over the brakes and tires real good since I plan on riding to DelMarVa in a couple weeks.
I’ve been reading through several of the most recent threads, but since connectivity on the ship is spotty at best.

By a subscription to American Bagger (or similair magazine). They show lots of older bikes that look awesome.

Biketronics http://www.biketronics.com/ can answer your radio question
(by buddy put a radio in a 1999 Electra Glide Stanard, using them)

No you can't put that big a rear wheel on easily
No you can't swap out to the 6 gallon gas tank
Shining up rusty chrome will still rust

Not that I've done it myself, but I have heard & read that going to a 21" front will absolutely ruin the handling characteristics.

But, I can't speak from personal experience.

Not so true.. Many prefer it.. Many who get it done wrong don't. Many don't notice much of a change at all. Absolutely ruin, is an overstatement. But I hear what your saying, some really don't like it. If set up correctly, it's a major improvement. Make sure you lower the front suspension, because the bigger wheel raises it from stock.

well for what it is worth, I had a dyna wide glide that
came stock with a crack chasing 21" front wheal.
I did not know any better, then my cusin let me ride
his heritage and it cornered fantistic . A short time
after that, I put a heritage wheel and tire on my
wide glide, and covered it with a fat boy front fender.
Now you want to talk about handling, that mechine
handled the twistes like it was on rails I aint lieing.
So would I ever put a crack chasing 21" front tire
on my RKC No Stinking Way

not that i'm a huge fan of the 21 on touring bikes but....your "crack chasing" 21 on your wide glide was probably an 80 maybe a 90...the 21 commonly used on Baggers is a 120...only about 3/8" more narrow then stock...... i doubt it chases cracks much more then stock
