Getting ready to do the 5k service myself. Had the dealer do the 1K and install the stage 1. I have the service manual and will replace the fluids in all 3 holes with my stuff and follow the recommended checks. Will also replace exhaust gaskets since I pulled the exhaust when I replaced the bars, clutch cable, and am getting some popping and light backfire, mostly popping. In addition to just checking fasteners for tightness, any recommended areas of interest I should check. Saw where some people have had loose bolts on the oil filter mount. No general problems with the bike, rides nice, pulls strong, steers good.
Just got back from a weekend trip and as soon as it cools some, will drain the fluids.
I would pull the plugs around the injectors and put a little dielectric grease in them and reconnect them...leave the engine oil 1/2 qt. low on refill...put a very little antiseize on the jiffy stand pocket....before you drain anything give the whole bottom of the bike a good look see to make sure there are no leaks....maybe pull the spark plugs and put some anti-seize on them...the bolt for the front top engine mount has a history of not being tight on some bikes, so give it a torque...ohhh, and check the shifter bolts and the shift rod for play...

Thanks, I did plan to pull the plugs to check their condition and have some anti-sieze for them. If there is any lft in the tube, the stand will get it.
Some of you guys sure like to overdue things. Since yopu have the service manual, why not just go off of that?
Because some of also realize that due to the fine and unsurpassed quality control of the HD at the factory and delivering dealers, there might just be something of particular to look at. It must be nice to be blindly faithful.

do it yourself, the 5K service is just an oil change, the primary and tranny get changed at the 10K service.
I realize that "by the book" there is not much to do, but I was hoping some people would contribute what they found that is a "good to look at" item either based on poor dealer prior service or factory deficiencies. For my own comfort, I am replacing all the fluids, yes perhaps overkill, but that's my plan.
For the record, I do most of my service on all the vehicles in my possession unless it's warranty work or the cost of the special tools is prohibitive.
