LOL - yep, just about everyone at the VA here in San Antonio.
For sake of due dilligence, I would branch out from the VA. If their pedigree includes modern sports medicine, fine. If not, search for some team doctors for the Spurs and other pro-sports teams. You may be pleasantly surprised. May be expensive and it may not.
Damn Chief, don't bug out cause your bike-less at the moment. Stick around; I for one enjoy your posts and you will get another scoot (even if it's three wheels)
Fly Low I had a guy in San Antonio put her together for me but it's actually a pretty easy kit install. Just remove the rear swing arm and mount the new one with the kit assembled.
Aviator My military service also cost me the ability to ride on two wheels. But if you love to ride as much as you sound like you do. There is no reason to stop. The softail suspension and the tractor springed seat makes it ride like your sitting on a cloud.
Yes it is a frankenstein trike and I do love the look and the springer front end. I am also an attention **** and this gets me all the attention I could ever hope for. But most of all it makes me forget I have a major back problem.
There is a problem with using a springer for a trike though. To trike a bike there is a front end wobble with the stock rake on most conversions. I have chosen to live with it in order to keep the springer forks.
With normal forks you can get a raked triple tree to add a little rake to eliminate the wobble. This is a very expensive fix on a springer. Part of why you do not see many springer trikes.
So unless you just have to have the springer forks, I'd reccomend using a differant doner bike.
Sorry to hear about your condition. If you have TriCare for life, you can ask for a referral to a dr outside of the military. I know UT Medicine on Floyd Curl has many specialists which accept it. Good luck and thanks for serving!
When you talk to Emilio, Please tell him hi for me and the trike is still drawing tons of attention everywhere it goes. I have not seen him since 2010 since I'm in the Fort Hood area. I use the Temple VA and they have done major good things for my back and my leg.
