Default P0572 Code: Brake Switch Low

I had a check engine light recently. The code displayed was P0572 brake switch low. Apparently the rear brake switch has failed causing the CEL as well as causing the cruise control to be inop and the brake light to remain on. I have unplugged the sensor so that the front brake switch will still activate the brake light and allow the cruise to still operate. I have the replacement part on order and will install the new part next week when I upgrade the exhaust. Anyone tackle this repair and if so, was it necessary to bleed the brake lines or the ABS module?

Thanks,

m.a.c.

Since the switch is fluid operated, I would imagine it would require bleeding the brakes. Mine was done under warranty on my 09. There ought to be a recall on this. More and more people are seeing this failure. I smelled fluid but could not going the leak because it doesn't leak until you apply the brakes and the switch goes under pressure

Nope just put some fluid in the new one, take the old one off and put the new one on quickly. Clean up any drips. Pump the bake a few times and you should be good to go. If you do get air in the ABS module you will need to take it to the dealer to put it on the digital tech to bleed. The above technique worked perfectly for me.

Default Check this too

After replacing the rear brake switch that was bad but didn't fix the problem I tore the bike apart, checked and tested both switches over and over again. Defeated I put the bike back together. Later I pulled up the full schematic to find that the brake light system shares power with the accessory system. Checked the fuse, it was blown, replaced the fuse. Problem fixed.

I did have a P0572 code and the brake light / cruise control was not working. Haven't ridden yet to see if the cruise works but I am sure it will be back.

Bleed the brakes. I don't care what trick or short cut you try, you are going to introduce air into the line.
They are what stops you, why take a chance on reduced braking when bleeding them is so easy?
And, no, you won't need to do the abs module as long as the switch is down stream of it.

For me the p0572 was triggered by me adjusting brake lever on a custom ape hanger, misaligning the brake switch which led the brake switch was always turned on.

I had a whole slue of codes on my bike the other day. The blinkers, horn and cruise quit working. I had the following codes C1216, C1214, C1095, C1094, U1040, P0572, P0154, P0152, P0151. I did find a blown accessory fuse which fixed the horn, cruise and blinkers. I had my faring off the other day trying diagnose my radio not working. Then the issue with blinkers started. I took the faring off again and found a couple of wires had bare connecters and they were touching each other blowing the fuse. Taped them up and fixed that. But the brake light is staying on still.

Have you removed the front brake lever or changed grips or anything else that required fiddling with the switch housing on the right handle bar? The most common cause for the brake light staying on is breaking the little plastic tip off the front brake light switch plunger. The brake lever pushes on that tip to push the switch plunger in to turn off the brake light. If the tip is broken off, the plunger doesn't go in far enough to turn off the light. There are several "shade tree" fixes short of replacing the switch. I bought a small plastic bolt and cut it off so just a little bolt remained under the head and glued that to the outboard end of the switch plunger
. That worked beautifully for 14 years when I traded the bike for a new one.
