How many miles? Does it have the chain drive cams or gear drive? That's likely the biggest issue you might have.

So ther seller confirmed carburated, because 06 was the first year of the SG and it was available as either CARB or EFI, hence FLHXI. Either way it was also the last year of the 88" displacement, 5 speed trans, and spring cam chain tensioners, verify the condition and change if needed. Some of the 06s were effected by an ignition switch service bulletin, and I think fuel injectors for the spray pattern angle. Wouldn't trade my 06 SG for anything.

Mine has 34k on the clock and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Have the CAM shoes checked or have them discount the price to compensate for the cost of the replacement. Also I would love to have the Carbed version as that is the only year that you could buy a SG with 88", 5-speed and Carb.

Good luck!

Mike

I have an 06 SG with stage 2 95", cammed, with screaming eagle hi flo air cleaner, 2 up riding packed, average around 50 mpg at 70 mph(thats canadian gallons), like it so much decided against new and buying extented warranty for another 3 years.

5k on a '06? So you found a garage queen. If the price is right go get her!

it has a lot of custom work--- you like that?

Is the work well done?

if it is not exactly what you want, you are paying a steep premium for someone else's idea of "cool".

---right.

I see a million classified ads with "over $5K in custom awesome paint"--- if you don't like dragons ( or whatever) then you have to calculate the cost of painting the way you want.
at least with a close to stock bike the cost is lower and you make it into what you want

2.) custom wheels or what ever- how good was the work? is that what you want ( it's not gonna handle like the rest of the touring bikes anymore)

my take is, new frame (09+) has lowered the value of all earlier bikes--- but I do like the carb.

-basically is the guy selling because he painted himself into a corner.
