Michigan Helmet Law Question
Michigan will be helmet free soon, however you will have to carry much more insurance.
To the guy who strapped a helmet to his knee to try to test the law, the flaw in a "helmet not being told to wear it" Comes from the very definition of helmet itself, that describes where and why it is worn.
1.
a. A head covering of hard material, such as leather, metal, or plastic, worn by football players, firefighters, construction workers, motorcyclists, and others to protect the head.
b. The headgear with a glass mask worn by deep-sea divers.
c. A pith helmet; a topi.
d. A head covering, such as a balaclava, that is shaped like a helmet.

Aldo, michigan's law reads as follows, which tells me that was probably a truck stop rumor.
Chapter VI. Obedience To and Effect of Traffic Laws. Operation of Bicycles, Motorcycles and Toy Vehicles. Section 257.658. Bicycles, motorcycles, mopeds, autocycles; operators and riders, seating, number, crash helmets, seat belts; rules. :
". . . (4) A person operating or riding on a motorcycle . . . on a public thoroughfare shall wear a crash helmet on his or her head. . . ."

Michigan trooper started following me 1/2 mile over Indiana border into Michigan. Another trooper swung behind him within another mile. They both pulled me down. After warrant checks, trooper said he wouldn't write me for no helmet but he was going to have to throw me out of his state.
I rode all the way through North Carolina with out a helmet on. I thought it was a free state. Passed several speed traps and state police giving tickets but none of them pulled me over.
Lots of people wear novelty lids Friend of mine got popped at the Ogemaw hills bike rally this year
My brother got a ticket for taking his bike around the block in his neighborhood to test out his new exhaust. Just bad timing but the fact is they will get you. Anything to make a buck in a state that is desperate for cash! Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead without one anyway. Mine just saved my life 3 months ago so... To each their own though.
