we have them on the wife's 2011 Fat Boy and she says they work, that the bike is noticeable cooler - is it no longer HOT, no way......but it did do something.
for $100 bucks it's honestly a no brainer for anyone.
they actually say that the v&h fuel pak is a great combo with them becuase they work down in the lower rpms and the fuel pak does its job in the upper rpms so overall you get a better performing and cooler running bike, but it aint gonna run like a liquid cooled harley (you know those 2012s)
I put them on a 2010 wide glide and the bike ran a little smoother in partial throttle settings, like around town, and noticeably cooler. I would consider it money well spent of you stop there. 4 months later I put on a stage 1 ventilator air filter, ran good and sounded better than stock when you whacked open the throttle real fast. I never realized how much noise the stock air box is dampening but although it was funner to ride I didn't notice a bump in power. 2 weeks later i took off the xied's and put on a pc v with a map from fuel moto. This seemed to give me a little more power and a lot smoother running bike at all rpm's. Still had the stock pipes with cat in the header. Definitely worth the money at $299 and the cost of a stage one air filter. So I drove that for a week until I had time to install the supermeg 2 in to1. That pipe was the icing on the cake and I felt the boost in power across the board compared to the stock bike.
So i will summarize by laying out my plans for the road king that I traded the wide glide for. Step 1 will be a basic se stage 1 air filter with a pc 5 or a powervision. If I am not completely happy with the low end then I will probably go with another supermeg. If I like the stock pipe then I will keep it and gut the cat later. Basically my experience has shown that if you keep your bike stock an xied helps but is no miracle cure for heat management or throttle abruptness. I would recommend spending the money for a tuner especially since pc v's are going for $279 now. To be fair my mileage went down 10% with the full stage one but I still got 45+ mpg so I didn't complain.
I put them on my stock 2010 StreetGlide. Honestly couldnt tell you if they "work" or not. Still running them assuming the engine is "cooler" but have no idea. Its always hot when I touch it!
if you are going that route then a tuner will be worth the money and you wasted $100
if you are only going to ever do a air cleaner and exhaust then just do the xied's as they are sufficient (you have to decide if you want sufficient or performance tuning)
I see NO POINT whatsoever in buying a tuner and then NOT getting you bike dyno tuned for peak performance once you have your set up (i.e. your exhaust you want, the air cleaner you want, cams, etc etc)
a canned map from some other bike in some other altitude at some other location with other gas, with similar mods is what it is, its not for your bike, so why spend the extra cash but not get all the benefit.

100% true with this post. I run the FL-XIED'S because all I wanted was to enrich the closed loop and cool it down a little. They work for me and places I mostly ride. If I wanted exact tuning for every RPM, I would buy a TTS Mastertune and tune it right.
I have them on my 12 SG. I can tell no difference other then maybe a hair cooler operating temps. Going to do a Air cleaner with my power duals and most likely will do a tuner upgrade (undecided which one). Not saying there not worth it, just can't tell a real difference.
