I am wanting to upgrade my 07 Glide, cams, exhaust, lifters because of the noise at 2100rpm.
I already have a Stage 1 with a Techno Research/DirectLink tuner.
Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Doing this to a friends bike as we speak. The 255's can be found for 125 -150 with less than 1000 miles on them. We found a set of take offs with 50 miles on them for 150. Plenty of take offs out there if you look. Complete gasket set for the camshest and rocker boxes was bought on EBay for 21 bucks. Set of bearings from the dealer, full compliment, was 15 bucks. Picked up an inner cam bearing remover/installer for 104 bucks.
New oil pump...not necessary. Adjustable pushrods...not necessary. Lifters...not necessary. Do you change a cam every time you change a lifter? Nope. No need to replace roller lifters. Disclaimer: if you have 40K or more I'd replace them simply because they are rollers and rollers do wear and get sloppy. 100 dollar insurance policy by replacing them. Low mileage motor = not needed to replace.
Bottom line is this can be done for around 300 bucks of you're smart and do it yourself. How you tune it and how much that costs is up to you. But for just the mechanical end of the mod you can do it for around 3 C notes if you look around. No need to spend big bucks on such a simple mod.
I'm considering installing new SE255's also. Just asking, in my case with 25K is a new stock oil pump necessary?
Ask yourself this...if you weren't doing this mod would you go out and pizz away money on a new oil pump? There are plenty of TC's out there with 80k, 90k, 100,000 miles with the same pump. It takes a pretty bad crank to take out the oil pump and you'll know it if it happens.
Torrington inner cam bearings and SE clutch spring about covers it. No need for adustable pushrods unless you just want them. You didn't mention fuel management. The 255s have an early intake close and the motor should be tuned. If I were you, I would be looking at a TTS Mastertune or a tuner of your choice and a competent tuner. Don't expect much more than 80 something horsepower from those cams but they are torquey and pull hard to 4000+ rpms before flattening out.
A good tune will get 85 hp / 100 tq depending on the exhaust. Great little torque cam for the heavier Softails and baggers.
I have everything ready to go but can't decide on the exhaust headers. I have Rinehart slip-ons and like the looks of the Dresser Duals but after reading one post about the duals and 255 being crazy loud, it has me second guessing myself.
Currently with the slip ons and the CATTED pipe, not enough bark....but my wife likes ride and I like the radio too

Good point. What about the tensioner shoes themselves? They shouldn't be very expensive and they're right there.
