I will always take mine to a dealer I know for the first service (1k), but after that, do the work yourself AND get a manual.

Although some of the components of the 1000-mile service only require "checking" or "inspecting", it is that initial checking and inspecting which can reveal actual or potential issues - and will give you recourse if any of those issues are overlooked.
Plus, it establishes a working relationship between you and the dealer.
SO for those of you who actually took your bikes in, what was the cost? I know I could call the dealer to get an estimate, but I would rather know what the actual cost was from someone who had it done.

It depends upon the fluids (engine, primary, transmission) which you choose, and whether or not issues outside the bailiwick of the 1000-mile service are encountered, but you can figure to spend somewhere in the $350 ballpark.
Thanks guys. I actually called the dealer as well just to get it straight from the horses mouth. Like I sadi, I just had them install wheels and chrome lower sliders so everything chassis wise should be torques to proper specs and the belt should be adjusted properly.
Blue.... I really like the deep blue SG. Mines black because I love the classic black and chrome, but that blue is really nice. Good looking garage set-up too. Where is Port Ritchie? I live in York, PA and it has been raining like crazy here. I just had 10.5 inches of water in my basement because the drain locked up from the pressure coming back in from the sewer pipes being overflowed and the ground pressure blew a hole in my wall between the blocks. All this after I just had to replace my water heater. Aint life and being a home owner grand????
Not trying to tell you what to do, but just because dealer changed your wheels doesn't mean belt is tighten properly or everything is properly torqued. Had dealer to swap wheels when I first bought my bike & when I got home the belt was not tighten properly. Did it myself. So check it out yourself for piece of mind.
