Mine is the same, light load. If I release the throttle, or hammer it, it seems to go away. I tried holding the throttle at 3000 rpms in neutral on the kick stand, I can hold my hand right on the boards and can't feel it.

(012" will rattle your teeth and bust fairng brackets.)

Why'd they do that? They obviously got tired of warrantying scissored crankshafts, which entails engine replacement if under warranty.

I wouldn't own a 96" motor without knowing what my runout is. It takes all of about an hour and a half to check. ( Please search 'Scissored crankshaft' here in the Forum to see how prevalent this problem is.)
Stiggy, ok, so if I did do this, and the Dealer finds the crank is within the tolerance (.012) what has been accomplished? My dealer isnt about to do this under warranty and if I pay them to do it and they find it within the tolerance its gonna be on my dime ($200 for two hours labor). If they find it out of tolerance, what do they do then? How is it "fixed"?

It's fixed by taking the motor apart and re-aligning, repairing or replacing the crankshaft and putting it all back together again. Under warranty, you get a new motor.

Run out problems are not static, they tend to get worse over time. Vibration increases, weaker stuff starts to break, and run out continues to grow. It also increases with heavy braking with the clutch engaged, bouncing over RR tracks with the clutch engaged, hard acceleration and burnouts.Just about anything that 'torques' the crank.

Where you go from there means you have to know where you are now. The gentleman with the .004" runout would have gotten me a brand new motor back in my day, when warranty was .003" to '0.' And as .004 is no doubt tolerable, he'll sense it if it starts getting worse.

I want to know before I drop big money on wheels or cams and headwork if I've got a problem. Consider directing savings to that crank project instead or plan to sell the bike and start over.

Sounds drastic? How about $5,000 in upgrades and THEN discovering that you've got a motor problem?

I guess I consider it a lesser of two evils to my way of thinking.
